True HD: What does it mean?

The "HD" is more than just a fun marketing buzzword. It's a quantifiable fact.

You’re probably familiar with the term “high definition,” thanks to today’s flat screen TVs and Youtube videos.  As a viewing quality, HD provides a clear picture.  When it comes to radar vehicle detection, only SmartSensor HD offers true high definition, which means better resolution for a clearer picture and more precise detections.

SmartSensor HD operates at 245 MHz with five times the bandwidth of other sensors, producing clearer radar images for pinpoint accuracy.  As a result, HD provides all the data needed for effective traffic management, including per vehicle speeds, average speeds, 85th percentile speeds, vehicle counts, lane occupancy and more.

The ‘HD’ in True HD refers to the high definition or high resolution of the radar created by Wavetronix.  When vehicles are detected, lower resolution radars create a large “blip” that makes it difficult to distinguish between multiple vehicles, adjacent lanes, etc.  SmartSensor HD’s true high definition radar creates a much smaller blip, so HD can distinguish each vehicle and each lane.  Even if cars change lanes, HD will still detect them accurately.

At Wavetronix, true high definition refers to the actual resolution of the radar, not just an adjustment or a display on the user interface.  For example, the increment with which a detection zone can be configured may be incorrectly referred to as its “resolution,” and that increment can easily be set as small as desired without changing the size of the blip detected by the radar and without improving the radar’s performance.  Don’t be fooled by competitive devices that make this claim – true improvement to radar resolution and performance requires increasing the transmit bandwidth, which is a much more extensive design task, one that has only been done by Wavetronix.

Like TVs and Youtube videos, high definition is also the preferred choice for radar detection. The true high definition provided by SmartSensor HD allows for pinpoint accuracy in distinguishing targets because its usable bandwidth is higher.  Real performance improvement means that faulty detection is less likely to occur with SmartSensor HD, even during periods of congestion when vehicles pass slowly in front of the radar.
