LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM—The Wavetronix UK team used their presence at the 2013 Traffex expo to invite attendees to ‘get out of the road’ by shifting from embedded inductive loops to the non-intrusive radar vehicle detection offered by SmartSensor HD. Gartland O’Neill, Wavetronix’ market development manager for Northern Europe, says the Wavetronix exhibit was very well received.

“This international show was a great success for Wavetronix,” O’Neill says. “We were able to visit with many existing customers, and many new relationships were established as well.”

Non-intrusive detection has become a hot topic in the ITS industry, particularly in the UK, where the Aiming for Zero initiative calls for the elimination of road work fatalities. Unlike loops, which must be buried in the road and require workers to be in active carriageways, SmartSensor HD installs above the ground and can be mounted, aligned and configured without placing anyone in harm’s way. SmartSensor HD has also been proven to be accurate and reliable, making it a viable, cost-effective replacement for loops.

Traffex 2013 was the 26th offering of the international traffic engineering, ITS, road safety, parking and highway maintenance exhibition. The expo was held at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham in April and hosted more than 8,000 visitors, exhibitors and speakers. The next Traffex even will be held in Birmingham in 2015.
