PROVO, UT—A unique trade show in a unique country gave Wavetronix the opportunity to demonstrate its commitment to bringing the most powerful and efficient radar traffic sensors to intelligent transportation systems in Asia and the Pacific Rim.

The 13th annual ITS Asia Pacific Forum, held 28–30 April in Auckland, New Zealand, featured a unique look at the culture of New Zealand, including a traditional Maori welcome. New Zealand also used the event to celebrate the 10th anniversary of ITS New Zealand.

More than 500 participants enjoyed insights from the region’s transportation leaders as they discussed what was most important to the people of their respective countries. Conference discussions highlighted the show’s SCORE theme – Safety, Choices, Opportunities, Results and Efficiencies – and included commuters’ demand for real-time transportation information and the best ways to utilize technology to meet that demand.

Mike Rose, Wavetronix’ chief business development officer, said this area of the world is recognizing that traffic problems can’t be solved by just adding more lanes to roads, and ITS options can make a difference.

“Governments here and around the world want their roadways to be safer and more efficient,” Rose says. “Congestion is increasing and these areas are looking to technology to make existing roadways smarter.”

Wavetronix’ long relationship with the Asia-Pacific area extends back to 2006, when the company participated in the 6th Annual Asia Pacific Forum held in Hong Kong. Since then, Wavetronix’ presence in the region has grown to include offices in China and Singapore, and SmartSensor deployments in China, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Australia and this year’s forum host, New Zealand.

“These Forum member countries continue to choose SmartSensor for significant detection projects,” Rose says, “where accurate and reliable vehicle detection leads to sound traffic management decisions.”

Wavetronix used this year’s ITS Asia Pacific Forum to showcase SmartSensor HD and the benefits of true high definition radar. Already, the company is looking forward to next year’s ITS Asia Pacific Forum, to be held in Nanjing 27 – 29 April 2015.

"As ITS continues to grow in the Asia-Pacific region, Wavetronix is committed to keeping pace,” Rose says. “With continued cooperation and innovation, Wavetronix will continue to bring the best possible detection solutions to the region’s unique transportation challenges.”
