Officials in Seminole County, Florida are using Wavetronix SmartSensors and revolutionary performance metrics software to actively monitor the performance of 180 intersections.

OVIEDO, FL—Officials in Seminole County, Florida are using Wavetronix SmartSensors and revolutionary performance metrics software to actively monitor the performance of 180 intersections. The software allows many problems related to intersections to be quickly detected and resolved before drivers become frustrated by traffic.

The software was developed by Purdue University and the Utah Department of Transportation and has been used successfully by UDOT for over two years. UDOT made the decision to offer the software for free to any transportation agency who wanted it; Seminole County is the latest community in the US to implement the program.

Using a combination of SmartSensor Advance and Matrix units, the software populates a series of metrics that deliver accurate, real-time information about intersections to traffic engineers. Raw data from the sensors is transmitted from traffic signal controllers directly to a server through an FTP connection, allowing agencies to bypass the need for a central traffic management system.

In 2013, UDOT’s performance metrics system received the prestigious Group Focus Award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation officials.
