SmartDataCenter improves collection, management, and distribution of data.
Like most transportation systems, the Fort Worth District of the Texas Department of Transportation is experiencing significant changes. New technologies are creating opportunities for DOTs to address these changes by utilizing advanced traffic management systems (ATMS) like the Wavetronix SmartDataCenter.
Faced with constraints in road development and a need to better manage roadway congestion, Fort Worth searched for an ATMS that would improve the effectiveness of their transportation network and increase traveler awareness of local traffic conditions. Such ATMS are typically custom-built to facilitate centralized traffic operations and management. In addition to installing sensors and detectors, which are the “eyes and ears” of ATMS, Fort Worth required an information system capable of collecting, managing and disseminating mountains of real-time traffic data. By leveraging this data, Fort Worth hoped to make more intelligent traffic control decisions.
To meet these requirements, the Fort Worth district recently installed the SmartDataCenter. SmartDataCenter is an off-the-shelf appliance that streamlines the collection, management and dissemination of traffic flow information. Designed to rapidly interface with both newly installed and existing traffic detectors, SmartDataCenter is ideally suited to upgrading legacy, custom-built systems as well as supporting quick-response, mission-specific new installations.
The SmartDataCenter appliance consists of ATMS specific software hosted on a powerful, scalable, industry-standard rack-mount server. Software plug-ins provide convenient interfaces for Fort Worth's existing and emerging sensor technologies, as well as providing evolving analysis and reporting services.
