Wavetronix employees are committed to innovation. All of the technologies and features that power our SmartSensor devices have been created and manufactured by us, and they’ve been designed specifically for traffic detection applications.

Each sensor is extensively tested, both in-house and by reputable third parties, and their performance has been proven in numerous published studies. And because they are created and manufactured by us, each sensor is fully supported by Wavetronix.

Digital Wave Radar

Digital Wave Radar is Wavetronix' patented process for digitally generating a radar signal. This process actively prevents the signal from slipping out of band over time or because of changes in temperature. Analog signals can shift so much that they are no longer compliant with FCC regulations; this shift reduces accuracy and requires frequent reconfiguration. However, Digital Wave Radar produces a stable signal that continues to perform accurately over time without being reconfigured. This kind of stability is essential for the generation of high definition radar.

True High Definition

Wavetronix is the only manufacturer of radar-based traffic detection devices that offers true high definition radar. Like HD TV, HD radar creates a sharper, clearer image, resulting in greater accuracy.

To create HD radar, a sensor must operate at a high bandwidth. SmartSensor HD operates in the 245 MHz bandwidth and produces clearer, more sharply focused radar images. Other radar traffic sensors operate at bandwidths of 45 or 49 MHz, and the radar images produced by these devices are typically blurred across lanes, resulting in lane spillover, vehicle occlusion and unresolved detections.

Some devices have tried to mimic HD radar by increasing their sampling rate, or pixels per lane, without increasing bandwidth. This has led to moderate improvements in performance but still cannot match the accuracy of Wavetronix' true high definition.

Multiple Radar

With true high definition radar, Wavetronix has been able to develop a radical concept—multiple radars contained in one device. SmartSensor HD consists of multiple radars; two receive antennas positioned side-by-side with enough space between to create two separate, high definition beams.

Multiple Beams

The two beams generated by SmartSensor HD transmit parallel to each other, creating a speed trap similar to a dual loop system. This speed trap allows SmartSensor HD to offer something competitive radar traffic detectors can’t—accurate per vehicle speeds. Algorithms measure the time it takes a vehicle to move from one beam to the next. This results in highly accurate speed measurements and more precise vehicle classifications.

Continuous Tracking

Continuous vehicle tracking “remembers” the position of each vehicle and monitors their individual movements. This process of recording the positions of vehicles and monitoring the vehicles as they move is useful in generating vehicle dynamics such as speed and direction of movement. It also improves the accuracy of vehicle detections by allowing the detection algorithms to use temporal as well as spatial data to determine a vehicle's presence.

Safe Arrival™

SmartSensor Advance's SafeArrival technology provides superior protection of the dilemma zone by continuously detecting the estimated time of arrival (ETA) of every vehicle approaching the intersection. Combined with the range and accuracy of Wavetronix' patented Digital Wave Radar, SafeArrival technology increases the accuracy of SmartSensor Advance's ETA detections by simultaneously and continuously monitoring the speed and distance from the stop bar of each uniquely identified vehicle.

This kind of advance detection technology has been shown to significantly reduce intersection dangers. With accurate ETA detections, SmartSensor Advance can accurately determine if vehicles are located in the dilemma zone and will provide protection for high speed vehicles as far back as 500 feet. This way, SmartSensor Advance ensures all vehicles will safely pass through the dilemma zone before the light changes to red, reducing the risk of accidents and incidents of red light running.
