New Patents Issued to Protect HD

LINDON, Utah—September 30, 2008—Wavetronix has received two new patents for the innovative technologies implemented in the SmartSensor HD.

US Patent number 7,426,450 was issued on September 16, 2008, and offers protection for Wavetronix’ proprietary speed algorithm, the calculation that enables SmartSensor HD to provide highly accurate per vehicle speed data. SmartSensor HD features dual radar beams that create an effective radar speed trap; as vehicles penetrate the two parallel beams, the time delay between detections is calculated to a fraction of a millisecond. These precise measurements make SmartSensor HD the first and only side-fire radar traffic device capable of detecting individual vehicle speeds.

“Accurate per vehicle speeds are important because they are the basis for many of SmartSensor HD’s other functions, including accurate length-based classifications, 85th percentile speed measurements, and average speeds that are very responsive to changing traffic conditions,” says Thomas Karlinsey, a senior engineer and product manager at Wavetronix.

The second patent, number 7,427,930, was issued later in September and provides expanded protection for Wavetronix’ proprietary Digital Wave Radar technology. Digital Wave Radar is frequency modulated, continuous wave radar that is digitally locked into the operating bandwidth allocated to the sensor by the Federal Communication Commission. In addition to being the only sensor capable of per vehicle speeds, SmartSensor HD is also the first and only sensor to operate in the 245 MHz bandwidth for high resolution radar signals. Higher resolution translates into very accurate vehicle counts, occupancy measurements, and average headway and gap detections.

Wavetronix takes patent protections very seriously and has shown a commitment to enforcing patent laws.
