LINDON, Utah—August 04, 2008—The city of Cape Town, South Africa, is in the midst of an ITS revolution as officials there work to reduce congestion and improve infrastructure. As part of this initiative, Cape Town is taking advantage of new traffic monitoring technologies and is deploying several SmartSensor HD units in a first-of-its-kind system in the region.
According to Mike Rose, vice president of sales and marketing at Wavetronix, an initial order of 21 sensors has shipped and will be installed along a section of the freeway around Cape Town. “This is the first large-scale, non-intrusive system deployment in South Africa,” Rose says. “This installation is an important first step for Cape Town and sets the benchmark for future ITS deployments.”
Cape Town’s ITS initiative is part of the city’s preparations to host the 2010 World Cup. Wavetronix is represented in the project by Traffic Management Technologies of Cape Town, an authorized Wavetronix dealer.
