Wavetronix Wins Contract for Iowa Transportation Project

PROVO, Utah—August 25, 2003—Wavetronix LLC, the world leader in Digital Wave Radar™ traffic sensors, has been awarded a contract to supply a network of SmartSensor™ traffic monitoring devices for installation along two major interstates and along state roads in Des Moines, Iowa, as part of the Iowa Department of Transportation's Des Moines-area ITS project.

The Iowa DOT began accepting direct bids for the project on July 9. Bid submissions were reviewed in a value analysis that gave less consideration to price, and more consideration to sensor quality, ease of installation, day-to-day operational reliability and the sensor's ability to integrate with NTCIP-standard systems.

"This contract means a lot to Wavetronix because we were selected for the quality of our product and not because we were the lowest bidder," says Dr. David Arnold, president and CEO of Wavetronix. "This reinforces Wavetronix' position as the industry leader in advanced radar technology."

The SmartSensors will be integrated with the Iowa DOT's central traffic operations to provide critical traveler information during and after road construction on I-235 and I-35/80 in and around Des Moines. SmartSensor is an all-weather device with auto-configuration capabilities that installs aboveground and leverages advanced radar technology to accurately detect traffic conditions in up to eight lanes simultaneously.
