LINDON, Utah—October 29, 2007—Denver International Airport has started installing a number of SmartSensor HD devices along its main road.
Several years ago, DIA was built 25 miles east of the original airport to provide an improved facility that can grow as demand increases. Since then, the number of flights has steadily grown, putting additional pressure on the number of passenger vehicles coming in and out of the airport.
In response, DIA will use SmartSensor HD to monitor traffic volumes year-round; they will also use the sensor data to generate trip times, which will be displayed on VMS signs on airport approaches. The airport is also using the Command DataCollector to gather sensor data at a central location. In the future, officials plan to expand sensor locations to include additional freeways leading into the airport.
