Las Vegas Orders More Sensors

LINDON, Utah—September 25, 2005—The Nevada Department of Transportation has ordered 72 additional SmartSensors for deployment in Las Vegas. The sensors will be installed along Vegas' interstate system as part of Nevada's Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation project.

FAST is an aggressive ITS implementation designed to manage current traffic congestion and anticipate the city's future transportation needs. It is a cooperative effort involving several different agencies, including NDOT, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, Clark County and the cities of Las Vegas, North Las Vegas and Henderson. FAST uses the SmartSensor to monitor traffic flow on a 17-mile corridor of Interstate 15 and US Highway 95, both of which run through downtown Las Vegas.

These additional sensors will be deployed as part of the second phase of the FAST project; the first phase, which required the deployment of 64 SmartSensors, was completed earlier this year. The entire project was designed by Kimley Horn and Associates; TransCore is serving as the project's system integrator. Wavetronix is represented in the project by Advanced Traffic Products, Inc. of Everett, Washington, an authorized Wavetronix dealer.
