SpeedMap is a real-time traffic health monitoring tool that gives traffic operations centers a 3-D graphical view of the roads in their metropolitan areas and lets them see at-a-glance the health status of roadways and the equipment in their system.
Like all Command data appliances, SpeedMap is an integrated software/hardware solution that is ready for immediate deployment as soon as it is removed from its box. Powered by technology from Triangle Software, SpeedMap creates a 3-D map of roads that lets users rapidly determine what areas of the roadway need immediate attention. Brian Hagen, Wavetronix' COO and chair of the Command product management team, says SpeedMap's visual feedback of road conditions can be a vital tool in congestion control and incident management.
“A typical TOC uses hundreds of cameras to monitor the roadway, and the important question is always which camera deserves attention at any given time?” Hagen says. “This tool can show operators, as soon as an incident occurs, which area of their roadway needs their attention.”
According to Hagen, SpeedMap's reliability comes from the quality of the data it uses to generate its 3-D maps. “A lot of TOCs are using things like Google™ Maps to monitor their roads,” Hagen says. “The question is, how fresh is that data? How reliable is it? SpeedMap's information can be updated as often as the sensors provide data to the system, so users have complete control over the frequency and accuracy of the data that is coming into their maps.”
SpeedMap gives the same level of attention to the equipment in a system, allowing operators to know in real-time if a sensor is failing. “SpeedMap gives the TOC a visual cue that a sensor isn't working,” Hagen says. “This way, the TOC knows immediately which specific sensor is having problems.”
SpeedMap integrates seamlessly with other Command products and can be purchased as part of a complete Command data solution or as a stand-alone product to integrate with existing systems.
