WavetronixPROVO, Utah—May 14, 2003—Wavetronix LLC, the world leader in Digital Wave Radar™ traffic sensors, introduces a Palm® application for SmartSensor™, the ITS industry's only auto-calibrating and auto-configuring traffic detection system. The application for Palm and Palm Powered® devices was unveiled May 19 at the ITS America 2003 show in Minneapolis.
SmartSensor installs above ground and accurately detects vehicle speed, volume and occupancy in up to eight lanes simultaneously. The new application gives users in-the-field access for automatically configuring and calibrating the patented SmartSensor system. Dr. David Arnold, co-founder and CEO of Wavetronix, says the new application merges the convenience of consumer electronics with the easy installation and auto-configuration of SmartSensor. "We're putting the power of our PC-based solutions in the palm of your hand," Dr. Arnold said.
With the new application, users can connect directly to installed sensors and calibrate them onsite. Using a Palm or Palm Powered hand-held device, users can perform auto-configurations as well as identify a specific sensor and its location and confirm the sensor's settings.
Standard laptops can also be used to configure the SmartSensor, but Dr. Arnold says the hand-held application has some real advantages over laptop connections. "Hand-held devices are certainly more portable, but they also offer a more stable operating environment," Arnold said. "The installation and configuration process can be greatly affected by a laptop's battery life and screen visibility, and the process can be complicated by inconsistencies in laptop operating platforms. Our Palm® compatible application alleviates those problems."
Dr. Arnold says there are only a few hand-held applications available in the traffic sensor industry, and he believes Wavetronix is responding to a growing need for easy, cost effective sensor installation solutions. Wavetronix's Palm application will be available for release later this summer.
