WavetronixLINDON, Utah—May 20, 2007—Wavetronix LLC, the world leader in patented Digital Wave Radar™ traffic sensors and ready-to-use data appliances, has announced the successful deployment of the Command DataCollector™ for the Illinois Department of Transportation. Wavetronix officials say this deployment is part of a growing number of installations across the country.
DataCollector has been installed at the Illinois DOT’s District 8 Traffic Management Center in Collinsville to collect sensor data from a variety of devices. According to Brian Sneed, ITS engineer with IDOT’s Bureau of Operations, DataCollector is currently gathering data from four 3M™ microloop sensor locations and 11 Autoscope Solo® video detectors; it will also collect data from several Wavetronix SmartSensor HD™ radar detectors.
“In addition to multi-sensor data collection, IDOT also needed a solution that is easy to use,” Sneed says. “DataCollector gives us real-time access to all our sensors on one screen, and it allows us to disseminate sensor data to other agencies through standard TMDD.”
Sneed says DataCollector’s user-friendly ability to collect and distribute traffic information is just one of the reasons IDOT chose it. “We liked its easy-to-use functionality, and we were definitely interested in it as a web-based application,” he says. “The capability and cost of DataCollector seemed to fit our needs, and we trusted Wavetronix to provide us with a real turn-key solution.”
One area in which DataCollector performed exceptionally well was in installation, a process that Sneed says can be particularly challenging. “ITS installations tend to take longer than anticipated and can be delayed for a variety of reasons,” he says. “DataCollector and the Wavetronix team performed very well, completing the troubleshooting required for installation in just a day or two. That is amazing, considering the functionality that DataCollector provides.”
As part of the Command line, DataCollector is a Web-based data collection appliance that offers out-of-the-box performance and scalability.
