WavetronixPROVO, Utah—June 02, 2004—Wavetronix LLC, the world leader in patented Digital Wave Radar™ traffic sensors, has become a permanent part of the Las Vegas cityscape. Sixty-five Wavetronix SmartSensors™ are being installed along Interstate 15 and US 95 through downtown as part of Nevada's Freeway and Arterial System of Transportation (FAST) project.
The FAST project has two phases; the second phase will require the installation of more than 100 additional SmartSensors. FAST is an aggressive ITS implementation project designed to reduce congestion and improve incident response time. The SmartSensors will be the traffic detection component of an integrated freeway and arterial management system; the data collected by the sensors will be used to improve the efficiency of traffic management in the Las Vegas area.
Nevada Department of Transportation officials, in conjunction with engineers from TransCore (Salt Lake City, UT) and Kimley Horn and Associates (Las Vegas, NV), selected the SmartSensor after evaluating the sensor's reliability, ease of installation and accuracy. Kimley Horn and Associates is the designer for the project; TransCore is serving as the System Integrator for Nevada's traffic management system. Wavetronix is represented in the project by Advanced Traffic Products, Inc. of Everett, Washington, an authorized Wavetronix dealer.
