LINDON, Utah—April 20, 2009—A unique project in Missouri has become the first Click!-only installation for Wavetronix. Recently, the Missouri Department of Transportation installed Click! 511 devices on bridges as part of a statewide project to monitor navigation lights.
Click! 511 is a digital I/O repeater application based on the Click! 500 platform. The 500 series of DIN-rail mountable modules allows programmers to build custom applications to enhance their communication cabinets.
MoDOT uses beacon lights to mark the channel and to guide boats away from the pylons of bridges spanning the Missouri River. Prior to this project, the only way to monitor these lights was to send an employee out to check each light on every bridge. Now, the lights will be monitored remotely using the Click! 511. Each Click! 511 is attached to a special navigation light with an alarm relay; if the light burns out, then the contact opens and the Click! 511 relays the signal to a main cabinet, allowing the status of multiple lights to be monitored from a single, central location.
The first deployment of the system was installed on the Boonville Bridge in April 2009. Additional installations on other bridges will proceed over the coming months.
