SmartSensors Added to Florida Approved List

LINDON, Utah—March 26, 2009—The Florida Department of Transportation has added Wavetronix SmartSensor to its approved product list. In accordance with state statute, both SmartSensor 105 and SmartSensor HD were extensively tested as part of FDOT’s approval process. All contractors, manufacturers or suppliers are required to gain approval before selling or installing transportation devices in Florida.

The approval process consists of three steps. First, companies must become “qualified vendors” by submitting the FDOT Quality Assurance Evaluation Survey. Surveys are evaluated to see if the vendor meets FDOT’s minimum quality standards. If successful, vendors are added to the qualified list and asked to submit an APL application. Once the application is accepted, the vendor’s products are evaluated to verify that they meet FDOT standards. Products that meet the department’s current specifications are then added to the APL for a period of two years.

SmartSensor 105 was added to the list on 30 October 2008; SmartSensor HD was added on 27 March 2008. To date, Florida has more SmartSensors installed than any other state, and both sensors have been included in several key deployments.
